Maharani Gayatri Devi

Maharani Gayathridevi was once considered as one of the ten most beautiful women in the world by Vogue magazine. She was also a fashion icon who was the epitome of style, panache and verve. Today we have many icons who would be hard put to measure up to her. She had international following and fame. She was beautiful and intelligent a combination which is rare. She lived a life extra-large in size. She was born in a Royal family married a Maharaja, was a mother of a prince. She was equally comfortable in western as well as Indian garb.

She lived for ninety long years but she aged well and was beautiful at all times of her life. What differentiates her from other princes and princesses is the elan with which she carried out her acts and actions. She was smouldering with an allure in her prime and comely in her later years. It would not do justice to say that she grew old. She matured like a fine wine and was pleasant to all till her end. Not many people can aspire to be her equal in beauty, style and life, then or now.

Dev Anand – A Quintessential Romantic

DevAnand was handsome in his younger years and remained so even in his old age. Dev Anand did not age, he just matured. You could say that he was becoming old in his movements but not looking at his face or dress, as he dressed in the current fashion but with a uniqueness that was DevAnand. He lived a long and colourful life full of romance unsuccessful love with bittersweet memories forever. He was considered as the first fashion icon of Bollywood. Definitely he was better dressed and better looking than his contemporaries.

He was actually chosen for his first film role because of his “ smile, beautiful eyes and confidence” by his producer. He maintained all these qualities till the end. He made a fashion statement with his dress and ever present scarf. Labeled as a debonair hero by film goers, he was noted for his charm, charisma and the handsome face. He was a quintessential romantic not only in his movies but also in his real life. We love failed love in all its form in the movies but he had that in his real life also. His love did not succeed. He carried that pain for a long time. he was the only actor to act as a hero till the very end of his life. The term “ ever green” aptly applied to him. No one can forget his unique style in dressing or acting. No one can do what he did effortlessly. His autobiography was titled “Romancing with life” and it is an appropriate title for the man.
